Your Short Game: How Clear Vision Can Improve Your Golf Score.

As most people age, their visual acuity begins to diminish. One of the most striking changes emerges when people reach their mid 40’s and notice that they need reading glasses. This condition is called presbyopia, when the lens of our eye loses its natural ability to focus on close objects as we age. With time, the crystalline lens continues to harden, making it more difficult to see objects within arms length.
In most cases, middle aged and older adults require vision correction for more than one condition. The most common is the combination of either myopia or hyperopia and presbyopia. The popular solution is bi-focal or progressive lenses. These allow vision correction at varying distances.
problems seeing at an older age The quality of progressive lenses has come a long way since they were introduced in 1968. Technology has evolved to offer progressive lens wearers many options available to suit a variety of activities with varying visual demands. High quality vision correction, even for challenging prescriptions, is now much easier to achieve. Unfortunately, the use of progressive lenses created a problem for golfers who need the critical 2 to 6 (intermediate zone) foot focal length.

This focal range is usually lost with conventionally designed progressive eyeglass lenses. Many of these earlier generation designs of progressive lenses can still be good for normal day to day use since most of our vision requirements are within the normal reading range of 16 to 24 inches and 6 feet to infinity. It is when out on the golf course that these standard progressive lenses can pose golfers a major challenge.
About 85% of an 18 hole game of golf requires clear, undistorted vision in the intermediate range. Presbyopic golfers generally have no problem seeing “over” their progressives or bi-focals when driving the ball and reading the scorecard is usually not a problem. However, this is only a small portion of the game. Golfers who want to improve their scores have to pay a lot more attention to the “short game,” that is when they use short irons and putters to get to the hole.
Concentrating the majority of efforts on improving the short game will help golfers to gain the best overall score improvement. On average in an 18 hole game between 70 and 80 swings make use of short irons and require clear and undistorted intermediate vision.

Golfers who wear eyeglasses have tried many ways to get a clear “read” of the golf ball, the distance between the hole and the golf ball and the lie of the greens. They range from removing eyeglasses, to shuffling between wearing two or three pairs of eyeglasses (distance, reading and computer), or getting specially designed eyeglasses for golf.
Until Paul Boyko Jr, president of Visions of Canada, developed his now proven “Vision Fore Golfing” precision perfect eyeglasses, golfing eyeglass designs left much to be desired. They include stick-on magnifying glasses for ordinary pairs of monovision lens to add reading power to read the score card, tinting prescription eyeglasses to improve contrast when golfing, and redesigning conventional progressive lenses to expand focal length ranges to regain intermediate vision.
Dave Bell Professional Golfer What Paul Boyko Jr. did was research the unique needs of golfers, build prototypes of golfing eyeglasses, get feedback, make changes, and adapt new technology. Finally after five years of procedure refinement, the ultimate in precision has been attained. Vision Fore Golfing are the worlds only eyeglasses so good that you can play a full round of golf with one pair of eyeglasses achieving the clearest vision possible.
What makes Vision Fore Golfing eyeglasses so unique is that they combine knowledge of the science of refraction, a deep understanding of eyeglass lens designs, the material used to make them, the technology used to surface, cut, shape, drill and polish them, the philosophy that “every pair of eyeglasses has a destination,” quality control, customer service and a process that produces consistent results.
