These automated machines generally don’t have any feel for cleaning out the drill holes so that the plugs that are inserted are not jammed in. We switched over to hand drilling all of our lenses in house too and the freedom of being able to custom angle the lenses and clean out the drill holes has allowed us to make eyeglasses that don’t break easily like other processes.   I guarantee you that you would not take your eyeglasses and bend them and twist them the way I do only because I know the process and procedure of how my eyeglasses were made.
