How your office eyeglasses cannot be your golfing eyeglasses.

Two pairs of premium eyeglasses can look the same, both
have great value, but have two totally different purposes.
You just went for the best eye exam in your life. The doctor was very thorough in doing your
prescription and checking the health of your eyes. During the eye exam the optical professional
showed you how clear your distance vision can become, and when they put the reading card in
front of you at 16” it was blurry. Once they adjusted the prescription for reading, your near
vision that slowly faded away magically becomes clear again. The doctor also communicated
with you and explained to you why you now need a bifocal prescription.
This is very common in people as we reach the age of 45 and older. This term as the doctor would
explain it to you is called Presbyopia and is correctable in your eyeglasses with premium progressive
invisible lenses. We all know as optical professionals that the older style of invisible bifocals do not
perform like today’s Varilux design lenses.
Essilor is the manufacturer. Varilux Comfort and Varilux Panamic are only two of the high performance
progressive invisible lenses they create. Essilor takes a lot of pride in the performance of their Varilux
design lenses. They will not put their Varilux trademark on any lens that they don’t believe meets their
standards. You have probably heard about Varilux design lenses on the radio from famous people like
Paul Harvey and Joe Gagnon. The name Varilux goes hand in hand with purchasing invisible progressive
lenses.
When you purchase a pair of Varilux eyeglass lenses, you should expect a very nice distance vision,
a good reading area, and an intermediate vision that allows you to see a computer screen, and also
price tags in the grocery store. One of the best features of their lens designs is that you don’t have
to lift your head up very high to be able to use their true intermediate portion of their eyeglass lenses.
You should also expect that when you bring your reading material into the 16” to 18” range your
reading vision should be clear.
Essilor Varilux design lenses complemented with transitions and their Crizal anti-glare scratch-resistant
coating in a high quality frame (for example, a Flexon or even a Silhouette titanium rimless) will not
be a budget priced pair of eyeglasses and they should not be because of all the great benefits and
features of their premium lenses. However, I will tell you one thing, Varilux lenses are not designed
for golfing. If you can see the golf ball at all, the focal points in office progressive lenses will have
you thinking the golf ball is not where it actually is.
I have probably sold more Varilux design lenses than any other optician in the optical industry.
I’m a great believer in their products and warranties. Their eyeglass lenses are leaders in high
performance office design eyeglasses. These lenses were never designed or intended for the
golfing industry, so you don’t have to feel bad if you purchased a premium pair of premium
eyeglasses and you can’t golf with them on.
The design for golfing eyeglasses came to me after my clients
were telling me how much they really enjoyed my premium
eyeglasses, but explained to me it was very difficult to see
the golf ball on the ground.

After five years of studying and experimenting with golfing lenses,
I have found the lens designs, the grinding processes, the edging
equipment, and also the eyeglass frames it takes to create a pair
of eyeglasses so that you can go back to enjoying your golf game
while wearing your eyeglasses.
